Here goes!

Just enrolled through the VA in Daytona Beach for the "Quit Smart" program. I have been smoking for 46 years, smoke about 1 to 1 1/2 packs a day, and normally smoke them down to the point that the filter starts to melt. I have had 2 bouts of bladder cancer, and am about to go through my third, although I think this latest one was caught much earlier than the other two. I feel confident that all will be just fine with this latest one. My main reason for coming here is for support. My quit date is mid-night on Jan 25th. In the meantime, we are decreasing our nicotine intake by switching to "lighter" cigarettes, quit smoking, over a 2 week period. I went from a full flavor cig to an ultra light for one week, then to a cigarette that delivers only .2 mg nicotine for the 2nd week, and then reliance on the patch, with a "fake" cigarette to get us by. I am DEFINITELY looking forward to quitting, but not looking forward to all the problems associated with it. I will just keep checking in and hopefully get some ideas and maybe a kick in the butt if I need it. I am committed to quitting...but like most, smoking cessation, I WILL need some help. Glad I found this site and hope to contribute, as well as get some assistance! I look forward to communicating with you guys. Larry
