Toad Suck Daze

Since everybody wants to know (at least one person DID ask), Toad Suck Daze is our local yearly celebration - you know the car show, craft vendors, junk food, bands, etc. It started out years ago at Toad Suck Park on the Arkansas River - about 5 miles from here. It grew and grew and traffic became horrendous, so the celebration was moved to downtown Conway. Below is cut and pasted from the website. (http://www.toadsuck.org)************************Well, The answer is quite simple... Long ago,quit smoking now, steamboats traveled the Arkansas River when the water was at the right depth. When it wasn't, the captains and their crew tied up to wait where the Toad Suck Lock and Dam now spans the river. While they waited,smoking cessation, they refreshed themselves at the local tavern there, to the dismay of the folks living nearby, who said: "They suck on the bottle 'til they swell up like toads." Hence, the name Toad Suck. The tavern is long gone, but the legend and fun live on at Toad Suck Daze.*****************************Give me a holler if you decide to come down!
